AI Literacy

The ability to understand, evaluate, and effectively interact with AI systems in daily life and work.

Overview

AI literacy encompasses the knowledge and skills needed to understand how AI works at a conceptual level, critically evaluate AI-generated content, use AI tools effectively, and make informed decisions about AI adoption. As AI becomes pervasive, AI literacy is becoming as important as digital literacy.

Components

Key components include: understanding AI capabilities and limitations, recognizing AI-generated content, knowing when to trust and when to verify AI outputs, effective prompt engineering, understanding data privacy implications, and basic knowledge of how models are trained and why they sometimes fail. Many organizations and governments are developing AI literacy programs for workers, students, and the general public.
