Explainable AI is a field of research dedicated to "opening the box." The goal isn't to simplify the AI, but to build new systems that can analyze a trained model and provide clear, human-understandable explanations for its decisions.

XAI techniques can highlight which inputs were most influential in a decision. For the loan application, it might reveal that the decision was based not on your finances, but heavily on your zip code--a clear sign of potential bias. This transparency makes the AI accountable.

As AI becomes more integrated into society, the black box problem is a major barrier. Explainable AI is the essential key to building systems that are not only intelligent but also trustworthy, fair, and accountable.
